It's officially beach season in South Carolina, and if you're ready to hit the beach, then Myrtle Beach has you covered. With more than 100 free public beach accesses, there's a reason our city is one of the best ocean getaways in America. These are just a few of our real estate agents' favorite places to find sand and surf in Myrtle Beach.
- Cherry Grove Beach - 1820 N Ocean Blvd, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582
With its powdery-soft sand and family-friendly atmosphere, Cherry Grove Beach is often listed among the best beaches in South Carolina. Numerous beach trails and boardwalks provide easy public access to this charming stretch of sand, and the area is both walkable and bike-friendly. There are also some lovely shops and restaurants nearby along Ocean Boulevard, and the beach is close to Cherry Grove Pier, which is popular for fishing and sightseeing. Lifeguards are posted from Main Street to Cherry Grove Point.
- Myrtle Beach State Park - 4401 S Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29575
About a mile of undeveloped beachfront beckons visitors to Myrtle Beach State Park, just a short drive from the heart of Downtown Myrtle Beach. Lifeguards are on duty daily from May to September at the north section of the park's beach, and beach blankets and umbrellas are available for rent. Showers and changing facilities are provided. Myrtle Beach State Park also offers several boardwalks that provide beach access, and the pier within the park is a popular fishing spot.
- 40th Ave N Surf Area - N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
There are several excellent surfing spots along the coast in Myrtle Beach, with some of the best surf being between 38th and 44th Avenues North. The 40th Avenue access is a great place to reach the water, with a convenient boardwalk that puts you in the midst of some of the best swells. This section of beach is about 2 miles north of Downtown Myrtle Beach—close enough to see the buildings in the distance, but far enough that the beach is seldom crowded.
- Huntington Beach State Park - Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
Just south of Myrtle Beach, Huntington Beach State Park is known first and foremost for its wildlife, but the beaches within this 2,500-acre park are also stunning. No lifeguards are posted within the park, so swimming is at your own risk, but you'll find several miles of secluded sand that are beautiful and inviting. Several beach access trails provide a route to the ocean, including access within walking distance of the park's campground. For anyone interested in seeing some of Huntington Beach State Park's abundant birds and other wildlife, 2.5 miles of trails and boardwalks traverse a widely varied coastal habitat.
- Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade - 1000 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
The iconic boardwalk in the heart of Myrtle Beach is a stone's throw from the beach. There are more than a dozen public access points along this stretch, including 8th Avenue N, 9th Avenue N, and Plyler Park. In the shadow of the famous Skywheel and a stone's throw from Pier 14, this is the place to hit the beach if you want to be in the heart of the action.
